On 5 May 2006 at the National Mediation Conference the body of the Conference voted unanimously to support the draft scheme and approved the appointment of an implementation committee to do all things necessary to cause the speedy and effective implementation of the scheme.  A commitment was given to the floor of the conference that the implementation Committee would be, so far as possible a body representing the diversity of practice and geography of the Australian mediation community.  Several persons expressed an interest in being part of that committee.  The general guidelines for the committee's tasked are described in the approved draft.

The committee is to be constituted by appointment following receipt of an expression of interest.  While no specific rules have been devised regarding how the committee is to be constituted the following broad rules are considered appropriate:

should include a representative from each State and Territory
should include representatives of major mediation organisations
should include representatives from major industry sectors (EG Family, Community, Workplace, Commercial, Courts etc)

If you are interested in nominating to be either part of the Implementation Committee or to assist the committee by participating in sub committees that will be constituted please send an e-mail to Scott Pettersson (scott@publishingpla.net ).  It would be appreciated if you could include a brief statement regarding the skills you would bring and which of the criteria detailed above you meet.

The Committee, also seeks to thank the participants in the conference for the overwhelming support and the persons that made submissions both in writing and through the consultation process.  Finally, it is appropriate to publicly acknowledge the excellent work of Professor Laurence Boulle, the facilitator of the draft standard the contribution of the Hon Justice Murray Kellam, who chaired the session at the conference and spoke so eloquently of the options put before the conference.

This page will be updated regularly as the implementation phase moves forward and sub-committees are formed.
